Solomon Carter Smith is President and CEO of Backroads Foundation, where he oversees the agency’s humanitarian relief operations worldwide.

Under Solomon’s leadership, Backroads Foundation has expanded its ability to rapidly respond to humanitarian crises and meet the needs of an unprecedented number of people uprooted by conflict, war and disaster. The organization is implementing an ambitious global strategy to bring clear outcomes, strong evidence and systematic research to the humanitarian programs through collaborative partnerships with the public and private sectors.

Solomon is a combat veteran that served in Afghanistan in 2012 and has held role such as Personnel Recovery officer, Special Technical Officer, and Space Operations Officer. He has served with the 1-19 th Special Forces, 1-143 rd Airborne Infantry and the 4th Infantry Division. In the Civilian world Solomon served as the director of operations for an international security company managing over 10,000 security personnel throughout the world. He has lived in various countries throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa.

Solomon graduated from IE University with a master’s degree in business administration. His international experience, training and education have been priceless tools as he continues to develop support teams through the current crisis in Ukraine. His accomplishments have earned him a reputation, for being able to arrive anywhere in the world and find solutions to problems. To put in layman terms, he gets results.
